The Centre for Theoretical Chemistry and Physics in the New Zealand Institute for Advanced Study at Massey University is seeking one candidate for PhD. The project is concerned with the chemistry and physics of superheavy elements. For this project the candidate needs to have a good understanding of computational/theoretical physics/chemistry and should be able to program in Fortran or C++. The PhD students will join the group at the Centre for Theoretical Chemistry and Physics (CTCP) within the New Zealand Institute for Advanced Study currently consisting of five full-time faculty plus postdocs, students and external collaborators working on topics in quantum chemistry, quantum physics and nonlinear dynamics. The CTCP is based at Albany campus of Massey University on Auckland's north shore. The successful applicant will have an Honours or Masters degree in Physics, Mathematics or Computational Chemistry. The project leaders are P. Schwerdtfeger, W. Nazarewicz and E. Pahl. General Information

We are looking for Postdocs, PhD students, and research students in Masters programme in Chemistry and Masters by thesis only in Physics. The Centre for Theoretical Chemistry and Physics (CTCP) promotes high profile research in various areas of theoretical physics and chemistry. CTCP was established in 2004 as part of an initiative to develop theoretical physics and chemistry at the Auckland campus of Massey University.

Masters / BSc(Hons) Chemistry and Masters by Thesis only in Physics

Massey University Auckland is now accepting students at Masters and Honours level in “Chemistry” and Masters by Thesis only in “Physics”.

Scholarships for domestic tuition fees are available from Massey University. See also Massey University's scholarship page, search for “Massey University Masterate scholarship“ or “other postgraduate schoralships”.

Under reciprocal arrangements, students from the following countries can study in New Zealand for domestic tuition fees: New Zealand, Australia, Germany, France. For German students there may be further financial support available through the DAAD.

Marie Curie Outgoing International Fellowship (European Researchers)

In the Framework Programme 7, the European Union funds postdoctoral research outside the EU for 1-2 years followed by a mandatory return phase of the scholarship for 1 year. More information is available from CORDIS.

Feodor Lynen Research Fellowships (German Researchers)

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation awards Feodor Lynen Research Fellowships to highly qualified German scholars holding doctorates for periods of one to four years. Sponsorship from Humboldt fellows (P. Schwerdtfeger, J. Brand) and for host contributions to the fellowship allowance is available. CTCP has already hosted a number of Feodor Lynen Research Fellows. Applications are considered three times a year. See also www.humboldt-foundation.de. Other scholarships for German nationals and long-term residents are administered by the DAAD and the DFG.
